eType Services, LLC ("eType," "we," "us," "our"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of eMagazines, provides digital publishing software and services to community newspapers and similar publishers. We respect your privacy and are committed to handling personal information responsibly.

This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, share, and protect information about you when you visit our marketing website at etype.co (and any other website operated by eType that links to this Policy), submit a contact or demo request, or otherwise communicate with us. Please read it carefully.

1. Scope of this policy

This Policy applies to information collected through etype.co and related eType-operated marketing pages, our sales and support email channels, and our contact forms (collectively, the "Site").

This Policy does NOT cover:

  • The publisher dashboard at publication.etype.services or other authenticated publisher portals, which are governed by separate agreements with the applicable publisher;
  • Reader-facing e-Edition websites, mobile apps, or newsletters operated by our publisher customers under their own brands (each publisher is the controller of those readers' information and maintains its own privacy policy);
  • Third-party websites linked from the Site, which are governed by their own privacy policies.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you provide

When you submit a Request Demo form, email us, call us, or otherwise contact us, you may provide:

  • Identifiers: first and last name, work email, phone number;
  • Professional information: publication name, your role/title, publication size and frequency;
  • Inquiry content: the message or question you send, what you're hoping to solve, related context;
  • Communications: records of correspondence with our sales and support teams.

2.2 Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, our web server logs automatically receive:

  • Your IP address (used short-term for security, abuse prevention, and aggregate analytics);
  • Browser type and version, device type, operating system, language;
  • Referring URL, pages visited, time and date of visit, error logs;
  • If you submit a form, UTM parameters present in the URL (e.g., utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign) so we can understand which campaigns drive interest.

2.3 Information from other sources

We may receive limited information about you from public sources (e.g., your publication's website) or from referrals (e.g., a colleague who suggests we reach out to you). When we do, we treat that information consistent with this Policy.

3. How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to your inquiry, schedule and run a product demo, and provide a pricing quote;
  • Provide customer support and respond to support requests;
  • Send transactional and service communications (e.g., demo confirmations, follow-ups, contract-related messages);
  • Send occasional marketing communications about our products and services where permitted by law — you can opt out anytime;
  • Operate, monitor, secure, and improve the Site (including detecting abuse and fixing bugs);
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

We do not sell your personal information in the traditional sense, and we do not use your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

4. Legal bases for processing (EU/UK visitors)

If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our legal bases for processing your personal data under the GDPR are:

  • Performance of a contract or steps prior to entering into a contract (responding to your demo request, providing the Service);
  • Legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving our business (where not overridden by your rights);
  • Consent for any marketing where required by law (you may withdraw consent at any time);
  • Compliance with legal obligations we are subject to.

5. How we share information

We share personal information only as described below — never in exchange for money or other valuable consideration.

  • Service providers acting on our behalf under written agreements that restrict their use of your information (see §7 below);
  • Affiliates within the eMagazines corporate family (eType is a subsidiary of eMagazines). Information may be shared with our parent company and sister entities for unified customer support, sales, account management, and corporate reporting purposes consistent with this Policy;
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or bankruptcy, your information may be transferred as part of the transferred assets, subject to standard confidentiality protections;
  • Legal and safety: when required to comply with a valid legal request, court order, or law; to enforce our agreements; to protect the rights, property, or safety of eType, our customers, or others; or to investigate suspected fraud or abuse.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

etype.co uses the following categories of cookies and storage:

  • Strictly necessary cookies and storage required for the Site to function (e.g., CSRF protection on form submissions, session continuity).
  • Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics, which we use to understand how visitors find and use our Site (page views, traffic sources, device/browser breakdowns, aggregate engagement metrics). Google Analytics may collect your IP address and identifiers it uses to distinguish unique visitors; we have configured Google Analytics with IP anonymization where supported. Google's use of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • No advertising / retargeting cookies — we do not run advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, social-network trackers, or third-party cross-site behavioral profiling on the Site.

Your browser may send a "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" signal automatically with each request. We honor a Global Privacy Control signal as a valid request to opt out of sale or sharing of personal information (we don't sell or share, but we record the preference).

The Site loads typography from Google Fonts via Google's content-delivery network. When your browser downloads a font file, Google may receive your IP address; Google's use of that data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. We do not pass any account identifiers to Google.

7. Service providers we use

We engage the following categories of service providers. We have written agreements with each that restrict their use of your information to the services they perform for us.

8. Data retention

We keep personal information only for as long as it's needed for the purposes described in this Policy, plus a reasonable additional period for record-keeping, dispute resolution, and legal obligations.

  • Lead and prospect records are typically retained for up to 36 months after the last interaction unless you ask us to delete them sooner;
  • Active customer records are retained for the duration of the contract plus 7 years for tax, audit, and contract enforcement purposes;
  • Support tickets are retained for 24 months after closure;
  • Server logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and operations.

9. Security

We use commercially reasonable technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These include TLS encryption for data in transit, access controls, regular backups, and logging.

No system is perfectly secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security and do not make any warranty that your data will remain confidential against every possible attack. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.

10. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights with respect to your personal information:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions;
  • Portability — receive a copy of certain information in a portable format;
  • Opt out of marketing communications (every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link);
  • Opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we don't sell or share, but the right exists in some states);
  • Restriction or objection to certain processing;
  • Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent;
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (EU/UK) or state attorney general.

To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@etypeservices.com or call (512) 687-9055. We may need to verify your identity before responding. We do not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

11. California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), provides you specific rights.

Categories of personal information we collect

In the past 12 months, we have collected the following categories of personal information from California residents (as defined by Cal. Civ. Code §1798.140):

  • Identifiers — name, email, phone, IP address (collected from you and from automated technologies);
  • Commercial information — records of communications and products inquired about;
  • Internet activity — browser, device, page-view information from server logs;
  • Professional/employment — your role/title and the publication you work for;
  • Inferences drawn from the above (e.g., that you are likely a publisher decision-maker).

Sources, business purposes, and disclosures

Sources: directly from you, automatically from your interaction with the Site, and occasionally from public sources or referrals.

Business purposes: as described in §3 (How we use information).

Disclosures for a business purpose: to the service providers listed in §7, who are restricted from using the information for any other purpose.

Sale or sharing

We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Accordingly, we do not offer a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link because we have nothing to opt you out of. We will, however, treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a recorded opt-out preference.

Sensitive personal information

We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by CPRA from California residents through the Site.

How to exercise your California rights

Email privacy@etypeservices.com with "California Privacy Request" in the subject line, or call (512) 687-9055. You may use an authorized agent (we will require proof of authorization).

12. Other US state privacy rights

If you reside in Texas, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Oregon, Montana, Delaware, Iowa, New Jersey, Tennessee, Indiana, or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law, you may have rights similar to those described in §10. These typically include the rights of access, correction, deletion, portability, and opt-out of targeted advertising, sale, and certain profiling decisions.

Because we do not sell personal information, do not engage in targeted advertising, and do not perform automated decision-making with legal effects on you, the most relevant rights are access, correction, and deletion. To exercise them, contact privacy@etypeservices.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by the applicable law (typically 45 days, extendable once if necessary).

If you are a Texas resident, this Section together with the Site's other notices is intended to satisfy our obligations under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act.

13. EU/UK/Swiss residents (GDPR)

eType is a US-based company. We do not actively market our services to, or target, residents of the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, and we have not designated an EU representative under Article 27 of the GDPR. If you reach out to us from one of those regions, the following applies:

The data controller is eType Services, LLC, P.O. Box 11590, Capitol Station, Austin, Texas 78711, USA. Our legal bases are described in §4. You have the rights described in §10, plus the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (e.g., the UK ICO or your country's data protection authority).

Personal data is transferred to the United States. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or other approved transfer mechanisms.

14. Children's privacy

The Site is intended for use by publishing professionals and is not directed to children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact privacy@etypeservices.com and we will delete it.

Reader-facing products operated by our publisher customers are governed by those publishers' own privacy policies and may have separate age requirements.

15. International transfers

eType is based in the United States and operates its infrastructure in the United States. When you contact us from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have data-protection laws different from your jurisdiction. By using the Site, you consent to such transfers, subject to the safeguards described in §13 where applicable.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top. Material changes will be announced through the Site or by email where reasonable. Your continued use of the Site after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.

If you fail to comply with all of the requirements above, your DMCA notice may not be valid.

Counter-notification

If you believe your content was removed (or access disabled) as a result of mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notification to the Copyright Agent including:

  1. Identification of the material that has been removed and the location at which it appeared before removal;
  2. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief that the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification;
  3. Your name, address, telephone number, and email;
  4. A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court located in Travis County, Texas, and that you will accept service of process from the person who provided the original notification (or their agent);
  5. Your physical or electronic signature.

Upon receiving a valid counter-notification, we may send a copy to the original complainant and may re-post the removed content in 10–14 business days unless the original complainant files an action seeking a court order against the alleged infringer.
