2017 HART COUNTY, GEORGIA

The Hart County Charter System continues to pioneer cre-

ative ways to prepare all students to meet tomorrow’s chal-

lenges by providing quality educational opportunities today.

As part of the system’s strategic plan, instructional technology

usage by students and teachers has been dramatically mag-

nified through the addition of Chromebooks for students in

grades K through 12 and Safari Montage, a digital learning re-

pository.

System-wide instructional coaches support teachers by ob-

serving classroom lessons to provide non-evaluative feedback,

locating and sharing instructional resources, and providing

professional learning opportunities. This support leads to great

teacher effectiveness, which in turn leads to improved student

achievement.

The Hart County Charter System has introduced several

communication tools to better serve parents and the commu-

nity. With the Hart County Schools mobile app, parents can

view grades, news stories, lunch menus, school events, and

more. The app is used to send important announcements and

alerts to parents, and parents can contact school staff directly

from the app. New school and system websites provides news

and information for students, parents, and community mem-

bers in a more concise, consistent fashion. The district office

and individual schools also utilize social media as a communi-

cation tool.

Funds from the approved ESPLOST referendum have been

used to construct an agriscience facility, multipurpose gym-

nasium and wellness facility, and college and career academy.

The facilities will provide opportunities for students to demon-

strate mastery in real-life, community-based settings and will

have a positive economic impact on the community.

The agriscience center opened in December 2016. The facil-

ity contains a research lab; animal prep, wash down, and hold-

ing area; commercial kitchen; and show arena. Science, Tech-

nology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) and research

skills will continue to develop as the walls of the classroom are

expanded. Additionally, the center has a banquet hall that ac-

commodates up to 250 people.

The multipurpose health and wellness facility and Hart Col-

lege and Career Academy (HCCA) will open the 2017-2018

school year. The college and career academy will blend the

needs of community businesses and industries into the vital

work of public education resulting in more marketable citi-

zens throughout Hart County. HCCA will provide a challeng-

ing, blended curriculum based on local workforce needs.

The Hart County graduation rate continues to exceed the

state average with a rate of 92.4 percent for the Class of 2016,

13.2 percentage points higher that the state’s rate of 79.2 per-

cent. The impressive graduation rate demonstrates the col-

laborative effort between the school system and community

through the Grad Dog Initiative, which features the mascot of

a bulldog dressed in cap and gown holding a diploma and the

motto “Finish What You Start.” This initiative was recognized

by the National Dropout Prevention Network, and the system

was awarded the 2016 Crystal Star Award of Excellence.
